The book comes from many years of pondering Psalms 139. More specifically, after David committed adultery with the wife of the captain of his army, Uriah, he had arranged his murder.
David, somehow mustered the courage to speak . . . you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made . . . We ask ourselves, “after what he had done, had he lost his mind” indeed he had not.
Rather, he leaned on a God that could make a promise to David and stick to it, regardless. Now ask the Lord to anoint your heart as you undertake the reading of a man – like you and me – and see if there is any offensive way in you.
The class of 1980 was done. But at the gymnasium, just a few years after graduation, little did I know that I would return once again. This time, not to play basketball. not going back to school of class or to reminisce over changes that have taken place after graduating.
This scenario would be a moment in time the when my world would change for me, and me to it. A moment that would take a miserable, broken, confused drunk in my early twenties, and set a fire in my soul for Christ.
